Who knew?????

My dad is in the hospital. He is 85. At that age any little thing can be a problem. In this case, by any little thing I am referring to a toothpick.

Tuesday night he said he stepped on a toothpick and his foot was hurting. By Thursday morning, his foot was red, swollen and he could barely walk. He called his other daughter (known as my aunt...if you are confused, read 30 Years Today) to take him to the dr. There he started his first of 3 rounds of IV antibiotics. I took him on Friday for round #2. Well, he was not improving, so off to the hospital we went. Friday night the Podiatry Surgeon (Who grows up wanting to be that?????) came in and starting digging around (literally) inside his foot thinking there must be a splinter still in his foot keeping it infected. Without giving you the gory details...suffice it to say, this was very painful...for him and the "watchers" (me, my cousin and my aunt). On the verge of giving up, the doctor pulled out an almost 2 inch piece of toothpick!!!!

So, my dad is still in the hospital and will be going to inpatient rehab following his release from the hospital. Please say a prayer for him and the rest of us for a quick recovery and an added extra dose of patience for all of us! (As a side note, I do think Kendall may grow up to be a nurse...she stands by daddy, as close as she can get and rubs his arm or holds his hand! So sweet!!!)

He has been upset by all the problems this stupid (he used a different adjective) little toothpick has caused. I told him not to worry...it makes a good story!
